Raphaël Butler: Channeling the Spirit of Beausoleil Broussard in Évangéline | The Musical

Meet Raphaël Butler, a passionate actor who embodies with intensity a key historical figure in the large-scale production Évangéline | The Musical. For Raphaël, this role is far more than just a performance — it’s a true connection to Acadian history.

“I’m lucky to play Beausoleil Broussard, a real man who played a pivotal role during the Deportation of the Acadians in 1755,” Raphaël shares enthusiastically. “He represents the spirit of resistance and revolt of the Acadian people during that tragic time.”

Being part of such a project and having the opportunity to bring this iconic figure to life is a tremendous source of joy for the actor. “Playing a character that embodies the soul of the Acadian people — it seriously thrills me!” he exclaims with contagious energy.

The adventure began unexpectedly. “The production reached out last year for auditions. It’s funny, because for the past ten years, I’ve been telling my friends that if ever a film or TV series about Beausoleil Broussard were made, I absolutely wanted to be part of it — even if it was just as one of his crew. Stories of war and bygone eras really get me going!”

Today, his dream is coming true in an even bigger way. “To find myself playing Beausoleil Broussard in a production of this magnitude — it’s honestly the cherry on top,” Raphaël concludes, visibly moved and honored to carry the voice of this Acadian hero to the stage.
