Synopsis
Against the backdrop of a wedding, Évangéline cherishes her dreams and stands up to her father and Father Félix as they decide her future. A woman of strong will and deep conviction, Évangéline is determined to fight for her life and for her people.
The British army is on high alert; two of their men have been scalped. Baptiste goes over to the British side and fingers Évangéline’s admirer Gabriel out of spite. Hanoah, a Mi'kmaq medicine woman, watches over Évangéline and Gabriel. The Acadians are unwilling to swear allegiance to the king, tensions are mounting. Baptiste's betrayal leads to the disenfranchisement of the Acadians and the confiscation of their property. While Acadia’s heart rebels, Évangéline’s and Gabriel’s hearts come together as they confess their love. The order is given, the vanquished are expelled from their homes, families are separated forever. The orphaned Évangéline follows in the footsteps of Father Félix, who wants to make her a nun in a Baltimore convent.
Seven years later, the war ends and the prisoners are released. Meanwhile, the rebel Beausoleil has continued to save lives, having accompanied the Acadians to Louisiana.
